Lama de Brumadinho chega ao Rio São Francisco
No Dia Mundial da Água, relatório divulgado nesta sexta-feira pela Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica traz monitoramento das águas brasileiras e alerta para a premonição tão indesejada: os rejeitos da barragem Córrego do Feijão, da empresa Vale, que se rompeu em 25 de janeiro, no município de Brumadinho (MG), já atingiram o Rio São Francisco.
Dos 12 pontos analisados no São Francisco, nove estavam com condição ruim e três, em condições regular, o que torna o trecho a partir do Reservatório de Retiro Baixo – entre os municípios de Felixlândia e Pompéu, em Minas Gerais – até o Reservatório de Três Marias, no Alto São Francisco, também em Minas Gerais, com água imprópria para usos da população.
Nesses pontos de coleta, a turbidez – transparência da água – estava acima dos limites legais definidos pela Resolução 357 do Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente (Conama), para qualidade da água doce superficial. Em alguns locais, esse indicador chegou a alcançar duas a seis vezes mais que o permitido pela resolução.
Segundo a entidade, as concentrações de ferro, manganês, cromo e cobre também estavam acima dos limites máximos permitidos pela legislação, o que evidencia o impacto da pluma de rejeitos de minério sobre o Alto São Francisco.
“Os dados comprovam que o Reservatório de Retiro Baixo está segurando o maior volume dos rejeitos de minério que vem sendo carreados pelo Paraopeba. Apesar das medidas tomadas no sentido de evitar que os rejeitos atinjam o rio São Francisco, os contaminantes mais finos estão ultrapassando o reservatório e descendo o rio e já são percebidos nas análises em padrões elevados”, divulgou a SOS Mata Atlântica.
