OBRAS COSTEIRAS: 3 AÇÕES URGENTES PARA AUMENTAR A RESILIÊNCIA DA COSTA
No início deste ano, a NOAA (National Oceanic Atmosferic Asministration – USA) divulgou descobertas indicando que a taxa de aumento do nível do mar dobrou no último século e, mesmo se as metas globais de redução de emissões forem cumpridas, o nível do mar pode aumentar 30 centímetros até 2100.
Os estados costeiros já estão sentindo os efeitos do aumento do nível do mar, com as enchentes aumentando de 300% para 900% em alguns lugares, em comparação com 50 anos atrás. Os furacões também estão ficando mais fortes e despejando mais chuva, e a temporada de furacões no Atlântico do ano passado foi a mais ativa de todos os tempos.
Ao investir proativamente em infraestrutura natural e prioridades de conservação, é possível começar a construir proteções para os ecossistemas costeiros que ajudem a proteger as cidades litorâneas, ao mesmo tempo que criam empregos e reduzem os custos de desastres futuros.
É preciso ação para controlar a erosão costeira em áreas urbanas. Para aumentar a capacidade de resiliência das comunidades costeiras e suas respectivas infraestruturas, são necessárias 3 ações urgentes:

À medida que os mares sobem e os furacões aumentam de intensidade, as barreiras entre o mar e nossas cidades costeiras fornecem proteção vital contra inundações, evitando a destruição da orla pelo avanço do mar.

- Investir em resiliência antes que ocorra o desastre
Os estados e municípios estão lutando para se recuperar da pandemia e da crise econômica, muitas cidades costeiras também estão se recuperando de desastres consecutivos. À medida que as condições climáticas extremas aumentam, há necessidade de investir hoje para reduzir o custo de desastres futuros.
Cada R$ 1,00 investido na mitigação antes do desastre, se economiza R$ 6,00 na recuperação de desastres futuros.
Um planejamento estratégico para construir infraestrutura resiliente nas cidades litorâneas, reduzindo os riscos de desastres, utilizando projetos inovadores baseados na natureza que criem resiliência a desastre futuros, deveria ser objeto de financiamento dos governos nas três esferas de poder no Brasil.
É necessário que o poder público apoie ainda mais essas cidades litorâneas na sua recuperação, ajudando a se prepararem melhor antes do próximo desastre, autorizando e fornecendo financiamento.

É preciso investir em prioridades que ajudem nessa recuperação e, ao mesmo tempo, protejam melhor as pessoas de desastres futuros.
É preciso incluir investimentos em infraestrutura natural e resiliência das cidades costeiras. A prioridade é a adaptação e a recuperação das praias urbanizadas, afetadas pela erosão marinha, construindo obras de defesa costeira que protejam melhor pessoas e bens de desastres futuros.
