O prefeito Miguel Coelho recepcionou, nesta sexta (07), o presidente do Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES), Gustavo Montezano, e o deputado federal Eduardo Bolsonaro. A visita das duas autoridades ao Sertão do São Francisco teve como objetivo conhecer os potenciais da fruticultura e do turismo.
Em uma das principais fazendas da região, o prefeito Miguel Coelho mostrou o processo de produção e preparo para exportação de frutas como a manga e a uva. Durante a conversa, o gestor falou sobre a importância do segmento para a economia local. A região de Petrolina é a maior exportadora de uva e manga no Brasil, além de referência em irrigação.
O prefeito de Petrolina também conversou ainda com Montezano e Bolsonaro sobre os potenciais do turismo de lazer e de negócios do Sertão do São Francisco. “Petrolina é exemplo de sucesso. Mesmo com a pandemia, nossa região consegue manter crescimento na produção e na geração de empregos. Muito disso se deve à fruticultura irrigada. Mostrei para o presidente do BNDES e ao deputado Bolsonaro que com mais investimentos públicos podemos expandir o desenvolvimento”, disse o prefeito após o tour.
