DR JUDIVAN VIEIRA

THE ONBOARD DIARY! INTERVIEW WITH THE PROTAGONIST KENNYA FERNANDES, AN EDUCATIONAL ADVISOR OF A PUBLIC SCHOOL IN BRAZIL.

From Brasília, Brazil.

Life is extremely busy for many people, and perhaps a little more for education and teaching professionals, in this new reality that requires urgent adaptation to remote platforms, all to serve families, students, society, and Brazil, while Democratic State of law.

Today I am pleased to present the interview with the protagonist of the ONBOARD DIARY series, Kennya Aparecida Teles Fernandes, Educational Advisor, and psychoanalyst.

Educational Advisors are professionals who tend to go unnoticed in the educational and teaching dynamics between families, students, society, and the State. But, make no mistake because their role is extremely important, since they mediate the most diverse types of conflicts, so that students carry out their task as balanced learners, physically and emotionally.

Thank you, Kennya Fernandes, Gevani Silva, Shophia Bittencourt, Andreia Bombom, and Katia Silva, for making part of their valuable time and work available, and for voluntarily cooperating with this proposal, which I hope will contribute to today’s reflections and to the history pages. In a further future historic investigation about this pandemic past of COVID-19, will show the work is still not outstanding to rebuild the character os the Nations.

Education and teaching transform people and countries. But, certainly, this only does it with those who allow themselves to be educated and who allow themselves to be taught. In this way, life is in charge of rewarding the diligent as well as punishing the negligent.

With you, Educational Advisor and psychoanalyst KENNYA FERNANDES, in her kind interview:

Judivan Vieira: How do you describe yourself?

Kennya Fernandes: I am Kennya Aparecida Teles Fernandes. I started my teaching career 28 years ago, teaching in Private Network for 8 years and then exercising the position of Educational Advisor, a profession that I have exercised for 20 years in the public school of the Department of Education of the State of the Federal District.

I have been an Educational Advisor at the Centro de Ensino Fundamental 10 in Taguating-DF, for 16 years. I have training in Pedagogy – Educational Guidance, Clinical Psychoanalysis, Specialization in Clinical and Institutional Psychopedagogy, and I am currently pursuing a Postgraduate Degree in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience and, therefore, I am an agent directly involved in the education and teaching process.

JV: Do you describe your “new normal”, or new reality as an educational guide, based on RESET, which caused the pandemic in the educational and teaching process, forcing the change from classroom to virtual classes, through remote platforms?

KF: To talk about this “new normal” it is important to start from the previous concept of “the common”, which is, in fact, “as one”, with which I identify with the other and vice versa, people who live the same habits, leading to the concept of normality that guarantees, in a way, our survival and protection.

When these two instincts are threatened, we no longer consider it normal. And that was how I perceived and described a world “out of the ordinary”, in which many people denied this new normal as a defense mechanism of the self and, at the same time, inserted themselves and forced to live a confusing, challenging, adaptive reality by force, to new patterns of behavior and thinking, as if it were a “survival kit”. By reinforcing this search for survival and protection and adapting to these changes, we will enter a new standard of normality.

JV: How do you assess the importance of Educational Guidance for the formation of the character of students?

KF: Character is made up of a set of actions and habits of a person, including attitudes and values, in response to different situations and events in that person’s life. Starting from this assumption, Educational Guidance has immense importance in the formation of the character of students, when it responds to their needs by developing a critical conscience, listening to them without judging and understanding the stages of development of each age group as well as the different realities relatives and their demands.

Understanding this dynamic, the Educational Advisor develops his various roles, providing debates, workshops, conferences, individual or group collective sessions, events, and moments of reflection on relevant topics for the formation of the student’s knowledge and the processes of knowledge construction, basing his performance. as a link between the family and the teachers, participating in the collective construction that favors the pedagogical development of the school and the student.

JV: How do you perceive the reality of students and families, in relation to the RESET caused by the pandemic in the educational and teaching process?

KF: The pandemic has changed the reality of families and schools. It generated many challenges to overcome and others we had to adapt to. However, I perceive a very difficult, painful, and at the same time renewing, transforming reality.

There are many realities that range from families with basic needs who do not have a computer, internet, cell phone, who live on the minimum resources to survive, and when they have a cell phone they share it so that several children follow some virtual classes when possible and carry out activities at home. night or only weekends.

There are those realities that parents rely on public transportation, at risk of contracting the disease, to find print activities for their children to do at home and return for corrections. We perceive parents worried and irritated about helping their children with homework; others, seeking to reinvent themselves, return to study to help them in this challenge.

We also see families developing jobs to occupy time, increase family income, develop new skills, crafts, sewing, painting, courses, new professions, etc. Finally, different realities that each family seeks to achieve so that the teaching and learning process continues with the minimum of impact on the reality of their children.

JV: Did you notice if there were those who stopped studying because the family does not have the means to provide the Internet or any other electronic means to monitor the virtual classes?

KF: Some students do. In CEF 10, the work of the working group was carried out. The management team, Educational Guidance, coordination, school secretary, support; All of these segments worked en masse to get the majority of students included on the virtual school platform, including a campaign to donate tablets and cell phones to students in need. Those who did not have access, due to lack of these means, are studying through printed activities and using the textbook. There are students who did not keep in touch, since they were not found due to a lack of updated information on the address and telephone number of the person in charge.

JV: When you analyze the students, what idea do you have about the difference and the importance, between those who dedicate themselves the most and those who do primary and secondary school at stake, in relation to the future in the labor market?

KF: It is true that students who dedicate themselves to studies with discipline and determination have a greater chance of entering the labor market with greater accessibility. However, this role also falls to parents and relatives for the encouragement and monitoring of this student and in the fulfillment and performance of school activities.

We know that the Labor Market, due to this new reality, is going through a process of change. The idea of change brings, in an underlying way, insecurity and instability, and will be very demanding in the selection of new professionals. This change in the training and commitment of students to study will cause important changes and, consequently, we will have many consequences in terms of the quality of future professionals.

JV: If you could write yourself a message and save it in a time capsule to open 10 years from now, what would be the three wishes to improve the education and teaching process that you would like to see fulfilled in 2030?

KF: Kennya, you are an agent of change who helps people find the path to self-knowledge, going through great transformations and starting their life stories anew.

The world has changed and the following wishes will be fulfilled:

1-Valuation of the Education Professional in terms of salary improvement, working hours, qualification and training of new educators, retirement. Greater recognition of the profession and its importance by all areas of society.

2-Development of socio-emotional skills and abilities through continuous training of teachers, insertion of compulsory subjects on Emotional Intelligence, Social Ethics, Human Development, Technology and Education, Positive Psychology, Financial Education, for all active educational agents, starting with the Management Team, all school personnel, to be completed by the students.

3- Insertion of technology in the classroom, providing a suitable school environment for learning and developing new skills; offering professionals and students of education all the resources, electronic devices, and state-of-the-art technological tools necessary for an excellent education and training of qualified young people, inserted, with high statistics, in the labor market.

JV: How did it feel to be invited to participate in the ONBOARD DIARY series?

KF: I felt honored, valued, flattered, and extremely responsible to represent my fellow Educational Advisors who are developing, reinventing themselves, and working with great effort and dedication to carry out their work and mission in the best possible way in this process of change and renewal. educational.

JV: How was your observation process to write your ONBOARD DIARY?

KF: My ONBOARD DIARY was elaborated and built from my practice as an Educational Advisor in the day to day of the school in telework, in the annotations of reports, and in the planning of the actions of the EGS team (Educational Guidance Service), with the management team, intermediate coordination, these actions, promoted for teachers, students, Educational Guidance Group.

This process was also built by observing the external elements of the educational process and recording the reflections and perceptions of everyday events.

It was made based on my participation and that of other classmates, teachers, students in the Training Lives, from the presence and performance of teachers and students in the virtual classroom platform, observing the dynamics of the classes, the commitment, and lack of she in the students. , the problems of the internet crash. It was built observing the continuous educational process of all parties involved, as close as possible to the new and challenging reality experienced by all.

JV: What results do you want to achieve with your ONBOARD DIARY?

KF: That all readers and people become aware of the true challenge of the school to test and apply this new teaching and learning process, which required a movement of great psychological and behavioral changes for all those involved, especially the great agents of the knowledge, teachers.

That Educational Guidance is a profession better recognized by all school sectors, not only for its performance in the emotional and pedagogical development of the student, the teacher but also for its extreme relevance for the improvement of this teaching and learning process through your promotions. and actions.

That results, after my reports in this ONBOARD DIARY, an attitude of respect on the part of the governmental authorities and of the whole society for EDUCATION AND TEACHING; that can give greater credibility and appreciation to the professional who carries out his mission with love, not with fallacies and empty speeches, but with coherent and fair actions to improve and increase the quality of teaching in all instances.

JV: What message do you want to send to students, mainly from public schools, who are forced to adapt to this new reality imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic?

KF: May your students discover the purpose of your life and be firm, determined, and focused until you achieve what you want, do not lose desire! And if you haven’t found it yet, create one! Find and reflect internally on something that is your greatest motive for action.

Our life is like an ONBOARD DIARY, every day we write something that happens to us or happens to us on a blank page. Understand that in the midst of so many difficulties and problems, there is always a solution, find what makes you not give up.

We all have “ups and downs”, if today was not good, okay, tomorrow may be better, you have the power to choose how you are going to write the next page, move on with good, positive and determined attitudes and thus, you can write a new page, very different from the previous page.

May your goal be in line with your abilities and talent, so that you arrive with joy, realizing that this fantastic process of life, learning, and knowledge are the true allies of success in life.

JV: Invite people to follow the ONBOARD DIARY series?

KF: I want to thank all the people who read this article and took the time to honor and gain insight into this new behind-the-scenes reality of each guest’s life, seeing through their lens the different perceptions, positions, and experiences in the educational context, in this time of the pandemic.

Therefore, I invite you to continue following this curious series, which comes with many new features and full of surprises, with stories of exciting lives lived by ordinary people in this new normal that represent thousands of people, and that through their experiences can contribute to the enhancement of the experiences of everyone who reads and follows the ONBOARD DIARY series.
