Deputado Ossesio reivindica que a geriatria seja incluída no Programa Nacional de Apoio à Formação de Médicos Especialistas
Na Câmara dos Deputados, o deputado federal Ossesio Silva (Republicanos/PE) deu entrada na Indicação n° 1.543/2019, que sugere a inclusão da geriatria no Programa Nacional de Apoio à Formação de Médicos Especialistas em Áreas Estratégicas (Pró-Residência), do Ministério da Saúde, que prevê a ampliação da oferta de bolsas de residência médica em especialidades e regiões prioritárias para o Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS).
O parlamentar destacou a importância da reivindicação para a saúde dos idosos. “A população idosa clama por melhorias no atendimento da Rede Pública de Saúde. É necessário aprimorar as políticas direcionadas a essa população, e um aumento no número de profissional especializado em tratar pessoas nessa faixa etária seria um grande passo em direção aos avanços que precisamos dar”, frisou.
Dados do Ministério da Saúde, divulgados em outubro de 2018, revela que 75,3% dos idosos brasileiros dependem, exclusivamente, dos serviços prestados no Sistema Único de Saúde, sendo que 83,1% realizaram pelo menos uma consulta médica nos últimos 12 meses.
A Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS) recomenda que haja um médico geriatra para cada mil habitantes. Mas o Brasil apresenta um índice muito abaixo do recomendado. Segundo dados do Conselho Federal de Medicina (CFM), há 1.817 geriatras registrados no Brasil, sendo que a maior parte (60%) se concentra na região sudeste. Ou seja, há um geriatra para cada 16.511 idosos.
