DR JUDIVAN VIEIRA

Corruption during the pandemic! Human lives, what does it matter? (Episode 19)

Having hope is not a bad thing. Hope softens life, sometimes keeps us from perishing and even from self-destruction.

But, after all, what is this “hope” that saves some from sudden death; that diminishes present suffering and makes us keep our eyes fixed on the possibility of something, someone, or a better future?

Hope is defined as a feeling of expectation and desire for something to happen. Thus, it should be noted that those who expect something are facing what comes from the future. It is exactly here that corrupt politicians and other kinds of swindlers invest their time and smarts. They promise good things, knowing that promise is an uncertain future event.

As promises are words and words are abstract, making reports with social and economic indices, making false electoral polls, and above all using fallacies, that is, lies such as those that say that your vote changes the country and the world.

All these political fallacies are effective because they efficiently create the illusion that the FORMAL POLICY spread out in our world is capable of producing the positive result that voters so much desire and deserve. Politicians always get what they want from their voters, but is the reverse truth?

False arguments or fallacies also often produce fables and legends. The Robin Hood legend, in which a thief steals from the rich to distribute to the poor, is one of the most famous. Now, tell me where have you ever seen this happen, except literature and TV or movie screens?

Our thieves do not use bows and arrows or papa-yellow pistols, they do not live in the forest of Sherwood or in the “Caatinga” of the northeast part of Brazil; they don’t carry the name Hobin Hood or “Cangaceiros”. Our most skillful thieves wear black tie and the power of multimedia to deceive you.

They defraud bids and public contracts, embezzle money that should be used to buy breathing apparatus for those affected by a virus, in the very middle of a pandemic time, while you keep thinking they have souls in their bodies. They divert the money that should be used to reduce the hunger of the miserable and social and economic poor that populate the streets of our cities, and the small towns and rural areas forgotten by our central governments.

Public income has, by law, a specific destination, but does not reach it, since personal political interests create countless shortcuts in underwear, socks, safes, banking and tax havens, and in various types of money laundering.

Thus, resources that should be used to generate jobs, public safety, housing, health, and good conditions for public education, are daily diverted by politicians who continue to be worshiped by voters whose understanding has been obscured by the stupid party ideologies that convince people to belong to the right or left, or center, meanwhile, none of these political specters loves the Nation.

Fuck off Nation, fuck off voters! What politicians want is your stupid belief in formal democracy and formal politics, what they already have for centuries.

The wheel always turns until a new electoral cycle begins, and then the flattery starts again with the voter who again lets himself be deluded by hope in formal democracy and formal politics, even knowing that everything is just but an optical illusion in a scorching desert of lies.

Thinking about this scenario, I always agree with the anonymous person who said it’s crazy to want different results by always doing the same thing. But so what, what matters we have or not a brain? What for,  a human being needs to rationalize life if what really matters is the daily entertainment?

Who really cares about reasoning and rationalizing life? Perhaps only when failure knocks at the door, and it really does because life punishes the careless, you will feel that being rational could have made the difference, and changed futures, yours, specifically.

To be continued next Saturday. December 1st 2021, the last episode of this series.
