Series: Corruption during the pandemic! Human lives, what does it matter? (episode 20)
Herodotus of Halicarnassus, the Greek who lived between 485 and 425 BC, is considered by historians as the “father of history”.
In his time, the only concern was with the narration of facts and events about something or someone important. In that antiquity there were two dimensions for understanding history:
1) That it involved the reality and complexity of human facts over time; and
2) That history is knowledge acquired through accounts and narratives.
Modernly, History can be understood as SEARCH, RESEARCH, and INVESTIGATION about something or someone.
Amid searches, researches, and investigations into the history of corruption, one that both ancient and contemporary peoples believe is that there is an unattainable, undecipherable, and lost in time History and ANOTHER one that can be deciphered, decoded, when described and narrated by a trusted historian or researcher.
What I have been looking for, researching, and investigating over the last 21 years, since before 2000 I worked as a Federal Prosecutor investigating cases of misconduct of public servants, in the misuse of public money, is to show that corruption is, on the one hand, Something in human nature, this tendency can be controlled and minimized to tolerable limits.
I have already said in countless interviews (some you watch on my channel “ESCRITOR JUDIVAN VIEIRA”, YouTube), also in some of my books that it is naive to try to eradicate corruption because for this we would have to end humanity, but in my encyclopedia “Corruption no World”, I carried out researches, investigations, and discoveries that scientifically point out the existence of the problem, the profile of the corrupt, the allies of corruption, its historical genesis and also solutions for this evil that hinders the development of institutions, countries, and societies.
Brazil has a culture of corruption, said some researchers at Columbia University in New York, when I went there to lecture at the Department of Latin American Politics. It’s true, I claimed, but culture is changeable!
We, we managed to change the culture of not wearing seatbelts, we managed to change the culture to respect the pedestrian and stop in the lane. So why can’t we change the culture of corruption? We can! The question is: if we do, will the politicians who are bleeding out the public coffers be elected and reelected as they have done 521 years ago?
These political specters that have dominated Brazil for so many centuries, whether from the right, the left, or the center, never had love for the Homeland, for the Nation. They love the “full table” that corruption, mandate by mandate, guarantee them, their protégés, and also the political parties to which they are affiliated.
The Brazilian singer Cazuza may have had many reasons to say “my party, it’s a broken heart, and the illusions are all sold. So cheap I can’t believe it…”. The fact is, dear reader, that you make a huge mistake when you think that politicians are your friends…
To be continued next Saturday. December 1st, 2021, is the last episode of this series.
